Apple Support advises customers experiencing issues to restart their iPhones, and in the worst case scenario, perform a restore in hopes of resolving their issues

It’s been two weeks since Apple released iOS 16 to the public. Aside from the custom lock screen, big changes to Messages, and new features in Maps, the update also saw its fair share of bugs, performance issues, battery drain, and more.

When you update your iPhone to a new version of iOS, there is usually a temporary decrease in battery life immediately after installing that update. That’s because iOS does things in the background, like reindexing files, photos, apps, and more. This type of hit to your iPhone’s battery is especially noticeable with Apple’s annual flagship software releases, like iOS 16, because they’re such massive updates.

A quick search on any social media platform, including Reddit, TikTok, and Twitter, will turn up thousands of complaints from iPhone users. All of these users say that their iPhone’s battery life has decreased significantly since installing iOS 16 two weeks ago. And of course, there are a number of conspiracy theories about Apple purposefully reducing the battery life of older iPhones to boost sales of the iPhone 14.

After major iOS updates, it’s normal for some users to report issues with the new update, but such reports usually die down in the days after release. This year things were different as iOS 16 saw quite a few bugs reported by users on an almost daily basis.

The initial release of iOS 16 was iOS 16.0 for all supported iPhones, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro had the iOS 16.0.1 day one update available, which addressed some issues for the latest iPhones. Last week, Apple released iOS 16.0.2, which addresses the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera shake, the annoying copy and paste prompt, and more. Despite the iOS 16.0.1 and iOS 16.0.2 updates, users continue to encounter several unaddressed bugs.

Apple is currently testing iOS 16.1 with developers and public beta testers, but it won’t see a launch until October, likely alongside iPadOS 16.1 and macOS Ventura. Apple Support advises customers experiencing issues to restart their iPhones, and in the worst case scenario, perform a restore in hopes of resolving their issues.
