The German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has made improvements to the infotainment systems of two of its most popular models – the C-Class and the S-Class. They get an MBUX system update that brings you a much more functional user interface.
The so-called Zero Layer comes from the EQS and EQE electric models and introduces a new screen with a large view of the navigation map and individual blocks. They provide quick and intuitive access to various functions without having to scroll through submenus. The system studies the user’s behavior and remembers the typical settings or routes that are used most often. Once it collects enough information, it starts offering personalized features.
Mercedes also reveals how this self-learning technology works. She, for example, can orientate herself on the telephone conversations of its owner with the family before his departure for home. Thus, the system will automatically offer a phone call at that time of day, which the user can refuse.
The update also brings more AI-based features. Among them is the so-called Energizing Comfort, which is a relaxing massage on long journeys. This and other features are automatically offered to the user based on their behavior over a period of time. The creators of the technology call these self-learning features Magic Modules. However, the focus of the screen always remains the navigation map.
The Zero Layer interface debuts in 2021 on the EQS and EQE electric sedans. It is now standard equipment on all C-Class and S-Class and will be able to be updated remotely. As soon as the update is ready to be installed, customers will be notified via the MBUX infotainment system and via the Mercedes me app. Future production models from the Stuttgart-based brand will also receive this new software.
