The company is expected to adopt the EU-mandated universal connector throughout its production
Apple will start including its USB-C connector in all products in its portfolio starting next year, Bloomberg reported.
The iPhone 15 is expected to have the universal standard, but also the company’s various headsets, mice and other devices.
The reason, of course, is the newly adopted European Union requirement to use USB-C in all types of electronics. It comes into effect at the end of 2024 for smartphones, and later – in 2026 – for laptops. This means that Apple could have released the next iPhone with the old Lightning connector, but the company of the late Steve Jobs will not only switch to the device early, but has already tried prototypes of the iconic smartphone with the new connector.
Apple is expected to switch to USB-C not only in Europe, but around the world – Lightning has accumulated disadvantages from age, such as the inability to charge very quickly. This is one of the few features of the top-end smartphones that the Cupertino company is inferior to all others.
Apple’s ambitions remain in the near future to offer an iPhone model without any cables – with wireless charging and data transmission. But both technologies are still slow compared to their wired equivalent.
