Now it’s time to look at the biggest announcement of the Far Out event – the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. According to Tim Cook, it’s „the most innovative Pro line yet.“
You can get four colors – black, silver, gold and a new dark purple. The frame is stainless steel and the display is a ceramic shield. And yes, the notch is gone.
But it’s more than just switching to a more compact pill form. Apple calls this Dynamic Island, with uniquely crafted animations. A phone call, for example, expands the area in a notification. It also expands when you connect your headphones, and when you’re playing music, you can see the current album’s artwork in the dynamic island.

The feel is very similar to the Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro.
The display sizes are the same as the standard iPhones – 6.1 and 6.7 inches. Apple increases the maximum brightness to 2000 nits. And finally, the iPhone is getting an always-on display feature. Or at least the Pro models.
Improved LTPO technology allows the iPhone 14 Pro to scale to a 1 Hz screen refresh rate. It can also dim the display, including wallpaper images, so that it remains visible, but uses much less battery.
The iPhone 14 Pro models get the A16 Bionic chip with its 16 billion transistors.
It’s built on a 4-nanometer process and is the fastest chip on the market, Apple says.
You get a 6-core processor with two high-performance cores that are faster while using 20% less power than the A15. The result is „amazing battery life,“ says Apple’s Greg Joswak.
The 5-core GPU has 50% more memory throughput. A new display engine enables an always-on display and a refresh rate of 1 Hz. And the cameras can connect to the CPU, GPU, neural engine and ISP.
When it comes to shooting, the iPhone 14 Pro will provide 2x better quality in low light.
This is due to the 48-megapixel sensor – an improvement over the 12-megapixel camera that Apple has used for ages. And the quad-pixel sensor with a larger pixel size. It has a 7-element lens with f/1.78 aperture.
The ultra-wide 12MP camera is also designed to support better photos in low light – a 3x improvement. There’s also a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom.
The Action Mode and Photonic Engine from iPhone 14 are also available in iPhone 14 Pro. Apple has updated the cinematic mode to work in 4k at 30fps.
Apple promises all-day battery life, but there’s no word on battery size – typical Apple – or charging speed.
Our biggest surprise of the day is that Apple is keeping the prices of the iPhone 14 Pro unchanged at $999 for the Pro and $1,099 for the Pro Max. Pre-orders begin on September 9, and the phones will hit stores on September 16.
