iOS 16.1 be released today, October 24. This is the first really big update for the iPhone since the release of iOS 16 in September. In addition to the necessary fixes, iOS 16.1 offers new features: we’re already looking forward to what’s new. From Monday and on your iPhone!
iOS 16.1: new features for your iPhone
iOS 16.1 brings some interesting new features to your iPhone and provides bug fixes. Several iOS 16.1 betas have already appeared, so we already know what to expect on Monday. Check out the best new features in iOS 16.1!
1) Shared iCloud Photo Library
Is it easier to share photos with family or friends? Set up a shared iCloud photo library. You and up to five others can add, edit or delete photos; the library looks the same to everyone. You decide which photos to share. You can also add manually.
2) Live Activities
Thanks to Live Activities, you stay better informed about the activities taking place right now. Is your food delivery already on the way? Will my taxi come in a minute? You can see the status right on the lock screen. On iPhone 14 Pro (Max) Live Activities are in Dynamic Island, on other iPhone models they are displayed at the bottom of the screen.
3) Metter Accessories
There aren’t many smart devices that support Apple’s HomeKit and that you can control through the Home app. But now there’s Matter: a new universal smart home standard that also works for the Apple ecosystem!
4) Improvements to the battery icon
Battery percentage can be seen on all iPhones as of iOS 16.1, including the mini and iPhone XR. Also, you will soon be able to see more clearly from the icon that the battery is empty. Right now you only see the decreasing number, soon there will also be a visual display where the icon gradually becomes empty.

iOS 16.1 also includes many small new features. For example, the process to set up your lock screen is simplified, the dynamic island slides down when you use Reachability, and there are minor changes to the Books app. This Monday around 19:00 you can update your iPhone as well as your Mac ( macOS Ventura ) and iPad ( iPadOS 16 ).
